September 2011 Desktop Calendar

It was just a year ago that I ventured down to the Smoky Mountains on the North Carolina/Tennessee border for a photographic field trip with some friends. But there were alternative plans in my mind. Alternative plans that led to a return trip this month as Ann Conver and I take eight photographers to the Smokies for a long weekend of great image making. Can’t wait to go back.

This month’s picture is from “The Sinks”, a lovely little waterfall on the Tennessee side of things – on the road to Cade’s Cove. We arrived at the Sinks in the last minutes of the day as light was fading fast. We had to scramble across a few rocks to line up this view but we were kindly rewarded. The image is actually a full-color image; there just isn’t much light left to keep it from looking like a simple black and white. Gonna be nice to see it again so soon.
