Fall Educational Opportunities

Peoria Skyline Et Cetera

Attention: DO NOT FAINT! This is not a calendar!

That’s right – instead of giving away a calendar, we’re gonna hawk some good ‘ol fashioned photographic educational opportunities here in Central Illinois – in three flavors:

1. I’m teaching another “Intro to Digital Photography Class” for the Peoria Park District. And while the Park District is the sponsor, this class is aimed at the beginning photographer and not at someone who wants to specialize in park photography or something. It’s a six-week class, for 90 minutes a week, beginning Tuesday, October 15 at 6:00pm. If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, they can register through the Park District’s website by consulting the Online Playbook – page 53.

2. My partner Ann Conver and I are teaching a couple workshops this fall – Advanced Portraiture on September 21 and something we’re calling Adventures in Black and White on November 9. The portraiture workshop is aimed at taking your people picture-taking skills to the next level – no matter what you’re experience is. We’ll deal with both natural light and flash light and give you a lot of help on the little tricks that make for better portraits. The Black and White class, which we’re teaching for our third year, grounds you in the basic concepts of B&W, and follows up by taking you out for the day to shoot with us.  You can get details for all of our current workshops here.

3. You can also check out Ann’s classes taught through Illinois Central College’s Adult Community Program. Browse their online course catalog and check out the “Art” and “Computer” categories for Photography and Post-processing classes.

And a bonus if you act quick! Peoria photographer Craig Stocks is offering two classes through the Contemporary Art Center. If you don’t want to spend six weeks with me (c’mon!), Craig is offering a one-day Intro class on September 18. This class is aimed at people who are new to digital photography, or have recently upgraded to a newer digital camera and want to better understand how to use the different settings. It’s just $25 and is three hours. One week later, on September 25, Craig is teaching a Photoshop class entitled “Advanced Photoshop Layers and Channels”. This class is aimed at intermediate-to-advanced Photoshop users who have a basic understanding of Photoshop layers and masks. Contact Craig at for more information.
