You knew we’d go back to Utah at some point, right? Of course.

The view from the east side of the North Window is one of the iconic sunrise shots in Arches National Park, near Moab, UT. This view – about 40 feet up the side of a rock face requires a very early arrival and a little climbing. It’s gets crowded up there in a space not much larger than a small bedroom. I think we squeezed about six of us up there that morning. There are actually quite a few stories – both good (some interesting personalities up there that early morning) and bad (one of my buddy Tim Lester’s Canon 40D camera bodies AND his 24-70 f/2.8L USM lens took the 40′ plunge to its death). But the view – through the amazingly large window (roughly 50′ tall by 90′ wide) – looks right at nearby Turret Arch. And for a few minutes ONLY every morning – the rocks light up before the western sky gives up it’s color completely. And that – THAT – makes for a March calendar.
