Getting Local

Silver BridgeLike the flooding in downtown Peoria, I feel like the water has been up to “here” lately. But, the site redesign is done so I can cross one thing off my list. But before “spring break” comes next week – there are a few local happenings that I need to mention.

If you aren’t one of the nearly 200 photographers attending the Peoria Camera Club’s Annual Seminar on Saturday (with Jim Zuckerman/doors open at 9am at ICC) – which still has a few open seats – then let me mention it’s the start of Art Festival season in Central Illinois. There are a great number of good art fairs in this region, and the McLean Couty Arts Center kicks things off on Saturday with the Spring Bloom Art Festival. Featuring 100 artists and eight photographers – including yours truly – the show runs from 9am to 5pm at The Sale Barn in south Bloomington on S. Main St., just below Veterans Pkwy.

Sunday is also the opening of the 25th Fine Arts Exhibit at First United Methodist Church in downtown Peoria. This invite-only show features art across a vast swath of disciplines. Touted as a show that garners “throught-provoking work that speaks to the depth of our human experience”, the FUMC show Opening Reception is from 2pm to 4pm in Wesley Hall, 116 NE Perry St., on the lower level of the church. If you can’t make the opening, the show runs through April 12.

I’m back – in theory – next week. Lots of other information to pass on, but get out and support the arts this weekend.
