Peoria Art Guild Spring Classes

Snowy Mackinaw 2The Spring 2009 class listing for the Peoria Art Guild is out and about (although not on the website quite yet).

This is an excellent opportunity to come out and try something new – or just to dust off some skills that have been sitting dormant. And no matter what – we do try and have fun. Here’s a listing of the Photography classes offered – we’ll throw up a link as soon as the PDF is available online:

  • Black and White Printing (Ann Conver) – 8 Mondays, March 30 – May 18, 6-8pm. Go ahead – get your hands wet – in the darkroom. If you’ve never done this – it’s great to see where all the concepts in Photoshop were invented. Imagine dodging and burning – for real.
  • Digital Photography – Understanding Your Camera (Ann Conver and Dave Vernon) – 8 Tuesdays, March 31 – May 19, 6 – 8:30pm. Ann and I return to put you to work with all elements of composition, introductary Photoshop, past masters, and shooting, shooting, shooting – all while coming to understand the nuance of your very own digital camera – be it Point-and Shoot or Digital SLR.
  • Lighting With Small Flashes (Dave Vernon) – 6 Wednesdays, April 1 – May 6, 6-8:30pm. Don’t let the start date scare you – this class is for fools who want to get better with the little strobe that sits atop the camera – the mighty speedlite aka the flash. Lots of hands-on work and you can pick on me for not being in the hairlight pictures.
  • Understanding Software (Jeff McSweeney) – 8 Mondays, March 30 – May 18, 6 – 7:30pm. Know a little about Photoshop. After this class, consider the fact that you’ll know MORE. The content in class will be tailored to the things you want to do. Held in the Mac lab at the downtown Robert Morris College.
  • Photo Restoration (Ann Conver and Erin Robert) – 6 Thursdays, April 2 – May 7, 6 – 8pm. A new offering, this class will take you through digitally restoring old and degraded pictures.
  • Homeschool Photo (Jeff McSweeney) – 8 Tuesdays, March 31 – May 19, 10am – 12 noon. Got kids you’re homeschooling? This class is aimed at getting them into the basics of photography – from shooting and composition, to developing and processing film in the darkroom. A great jumping in point.
  • Portrait Photography (Jeff McSweeney) – 2 Saturdays, May 9 & 16, 10am – 12 noon. Students will walk away from this workshop with a better understanding of what it means to develop a unique style of portrait photography. Visual examples, an actual photo shoot and a review of student work will be covered.
